[Shit On My Hard Drive] Three Weird Selections I have a lot of strange things on my hard drive. In the process of moving things over from my modestly-large drive on my big laptop to my surprisingly-larger hard drive on my netbook, I've been going through some of the more unusual selections (with a healthy dose of "where the hell did I get this from?"). I decided to start another irregular feature on here called "Shit On My Hard Drive" so I can start sharing them with you. (In this case, "shit" means "hobby game of some sort," but it might be anything else I find weird on my computer -- songs, video games, software, whatever.) Here are three RPG selections on my hard drive right now that are... a bit odd. Joe in Ten Persons: I found this via the Free RPG Blog. It's a game about a guy named Joe who meets a man named Keeton who allows him to interact with a variety of alternate versions of himself who are all obsessed with affecting the decision of one particular Joe, Joe Prime. SImple, right? It's a one-shot shared-narration competitive RPG with a clear winner and a weird kind of board game vibe featuring stick figures. Yeah, there's no easy way to describe it. But it's worth at least a glance. And it's free. Download it.Read a review. The Agency: Take the height of 60s super-spies. Stir in a healthy portion of monster stomping, and you get The Agency. It has a lot of the fun of a game like Bureau 13, but with a system that focuses on high action and camp (with some interesting incentives to fail entertainingly). It was originally designed for the No Press Anthology, but it's now released by the author for free. Download it.Read a review of an earlier version.Super Console: Tired of playing fantasy RPGs? Now you can play a video game RPG... as a tabletop RPG... which is primarily focused on fantasy. Well, you know what I mean. This straddles the line between "faithful reproduction" and "shameless parody," but more than once it's inspired me to run a game where mages and ninjas level up multiple times a session and buy equipment from identical-looking stores while fighting in two opposing rows. There's nothing to handle situations outside of combat, but given the kinds of games this is emulating, that's not surprising. It's a buck on DriveThruRPG, but you can find free (legal) copies on the net if you dig around a bit. Buy it.

Episode 10 – Mr. Druitt Originally published at The Whitechapel Project (for MP3s and polls, click this link). You can comment here or there. Listen to this episode
Download this episode in MP3
Six escaped from the Whitechapel Project, thanks to the help of the mysterious Mister Rich. Although Six got some clues to the nature of his past, he had more questions than answers when Mister Rich was shot by a man masquerading as a police officer. A high-speed chase with real police officers and a van with two unknown men led to a showdown at a hospital, during which Six was knocked unconscious. He awoke in an expensive hotel room with a note from someone named “Elizabeth” and a wake-up call from the front desk that referred to him by an unfamiliar name.

Real Friends
So, considering this whole ordeal, it's amazing what people have been saying about klubwerks and I. Some people have been great and supportive, and there's a light at the end of the tunnel due to some very awesome people. However, there are some, whom I considered friends and enjoyed hanging out with that are saying some pretty nasty things about us. It's amazing how some people can be two faced. There's one in particular, a former RC. So, this RC was a member that I considered a friend. I enjoyed talking with him OOC, going to his games, etc. He was (at first) a nice guy. We had some concerns about him being in Iraq and being RC, but other than that, nothing bad. Since the expulsion, he's said some pretty nasty and inflammatory things about us. Saying how we drove off members and got what we deserved, etc. If that's the case, why did this RC not follow the conflict resolution procedures in the membership handbook? Why were we never talked to about it. In his mind, being an asshole and removing a resource that we paid for mostly out of pocket (sans those who donated, again thank you if you were one of them) deserves being kicked out of the club. So, pissing off a whole region, forcing long time members out of the club and otherwise being a regional douche isnt enough? Anyhow.. there's others who I'm surprised at, but that one I just had to rant about. Feel free to leave flame in your comments. I dont mind. |

[Review] Sherlock Holmes (2009) Note: As people comment here and in other places, I plan to update this with footnotes providing citations for various points (for and against). Because I love playing with Sherlockian research, even if I'm not that awesome at it. To preface this, I have been a Sherlock Holmes fan for twenty-five years, since my father gave me a water-stained and dog-eared copy of the "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes," containing the first twelve stories of the canon. I have read everything by Doyle, probably read an additional two dozen pastiches, listened to close to a hundred audiobook and radio versions, and watched a variety of television and movie renditions of the master detective. While I by no means consider myself a Sherlockian scholar, Holmes is certainly my first and most persistent fandom. It has been with equal parts excitement and trepidation that I've been awaiting the Guy Ritchie vision of Sherlock Holmes. I planned to see it at a midnight showing on my birthday (because that would have just been awesome), but it turns out that the nearest theater to where we were in Tennessee was well over an hour away. So I waited until Sunday, when we got back. I had a terrible cold, and didn't want to go out -- until David asked if I wanted to go see the Sherlock Holmes movie. Because that's different, you see. Interestingly (and to a great extent, flatteringly), a number of my friends have been waiting on my opinion of the film before going to see it themselves. They know of my obsession fanaticism interest in all versions of Holmes, and since I gave my brief review on Twitter, a number of people have contacted me asking for a more detailed review. If, however, you just want the short version, here it is: I thought it was a very fun and enjoyable update to Sherlock Holmes that keeps to the core of the canon, although casual audiences might not realize that. ( More detailed thoughts (minor spoilers) ) Current Mood: pleased |

Avatar, Take II (or, Why Are We Still Talking About This...?)
I understand the frustration that the fantasy and the isms create. However, there's a kernal of something rolling around my mind that I don't know quite how to express... so, I'm going to put my foot into the water of trying to express and and hope it doesn't come out wrong. ( I'm going on a rant here... )And all of this... came streaming away from a visually stunning movie over its okay at best story. Really... the story didn't deserve this kind of attention. End rant. Raen. Current Mood: thoughtfulCurrent Music: "And I... have been blamed... and I... have repented..." |

My Non-Spoilery Nine Review If you loved Chicago, that's great. Because this movie is very, very far from Chicago despite the fact that it's directed by the same chap. Nine has moments, and I mean brief, moments where you can simply enjoy the movie. Those times are pretty much when Penelope Cruz and Marion Cotillard are on screen. Fergie is a close second. The rest? Just...oddly placed. The topic of the movie itself is just aboust sex and fantasy.
It's surprisingly mature and I don't think I mean it in a good way. I don't mean the sexual content is mature, I just felt like it was a movie about how one is an adult..or not. It was interesting but not anything that made you really wanna watch it again.
And most of the songs were sort of horrible. Which is a shame. I've never seen the musical on stage but I hope it's got more chops than what was shown on screen. The first couple of numbers were...eh.
I did enjoy Kate Hudson's song/video even though it's a HORRIBLE SONG. If it wins any awards I'm going to cry.
If anyone else saw this, let me know what you think.
Again, interesting movie. Not that great. I can't tell if it's overly ambitious or just had delusions of over ambition.
It does make me want to see the movie that the musical is based off of, though. |

Cant say I'm surprised
In an obviously vindictful act by the "powers that be" Michelle and I have been expelled from the club for taking down the cam-wiki (which was our site that we donated, and offered to the cam when we left) and being rude to regional officers (to which, I dont know). I didnt even know they were doing an investigation on me and her. No one said a thing, just bam, here's your expulsion, have a nice day! That's why the club is failing. Fuck that place, and I hope it continues to fall flat on it's face if it cant keep from being retarded like that. |

Bonus Anita Blake novel: Flirt preview Hi there! If any of you like the Anita Blake novels, we get two this year. The regularly scheduled one comes out in June is called Bullet. But since the author is a compulsive writer, she's whipped out a novella called: Flirt that will be out for Valentine's Day. I'm told that Flirt will be longer than Micah in page count. Anyway, if you're curious, you can see the first chapter online here just download the pdf. |

Know what's awesome? Getting all dressed and ready to go to your volunteer job and making plans for running errands afterward, only to turn the key on the car and... nothing. No power. Not even the sad churning of an engine trying to turn over, just the silence and the faint sound of the car gods chortling at you from afar. What a waste of makeup. Current Mood: annoyed |

I really like the after-Christmas Santa...
He brought me a gihugic television... like I need to watch more television. But yesterday, I did. Three Librarian movies showing back to back on TNT... oh, the horror! My penance was to get my poor, sore ass off the couch between movie 2 and 3 and go for a short 1.5 mile run. Yes, I went for a run... first time since last June and it was great. Now let's just see if I can keep it up when the prgretchin returns... and perhaps see who else I may capture in collective madness.... muahahaha. The best part of the year is all debts paid off. Sure I just made some new ones... err... Santa did... yes, well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. heh. But it is always good to start the year off with a pretty much clean financial slate. Well, it has been a busy week with stormy64 visiting. Also had a good few days spent with megra. However, I actually have some things to do now so I shall provide more happy holiday highlights later. |

Updates
It's been a lifetime.... I love my husband and ever since we've moved into our own place, it's been heaven. I wouldn't change it for the world. He's had the hardest time adapting to this city but I'm so glad he's found friends in the good ol' Alabama. :) Clyde is 10 months and 94 pounds now. He's learned to sit, shake, high 5, lay down and my pride...play dead. I'm in the process of teaching him to bow and next will be spin, since he already loves to chase his tail. He's loving the kennel and it's a god send. Now, if I can get rid of the habit he learned from another dog of barking at everything outside....I'd be pleased. Clyde has a deep bark, one that scared even the UPS man. Unknowing to many, our dog is the biggest wuss ever. Christmas was pretty awesome. We went over to my mom's and got a crazy amount of appliances. Apparently that's what you get when you marry and move to a pretty sweet town home. We received a blender, a digital crock pot, quesa maker, rice/veggie steamer, fryer and a baking sheet, along with other small goodies. All we really need is a dining room table and we'll be set. James and I did our xmas shopping early. He got a ps3 and I have a netbook! I'm looking forward to New Years and we'll be out of town celebrating the end of one year and the beginning of another. My only resolution is to have the book done by our anniversary. It's coming along quite nicely and the main character is an absolute blast. I painted a pirate skull and crossbones for my sister; since she's decorating her bathroom in skulls and gothic heaven. Taking the end of the paint tube, I scratched at the paint to give it an old worn look. It came out pretty wicked and James even wanted to keep it. *chuckles* I'll need to grab a few more canvases to satisfy a creative streak that's coming on. Overall, I'm enjoying life. In the aspect of the game. I'm missing plot in req and I'm going to change a lot of things to ensure that I actually have it. I miss stories and I miss the wonder of people. It seems that the days of numbers are no longer here. I'm not sure when it happened and it's no one's fault. It is what it is. I probably won't do the old world. As much as I despised the nwod when it first arrived, I'm used to it now. If this had happened 2 years ago, I'd be all gung ho about changing back. Happy ankh wedja seneb! (Life Prosperity Health).
